Summer's Festival
This artwork celebrates the joy I feel in my summer cutting garden surrounded by large and colourful dahlia blooms. It never ceases to amaze me how these huge flowers emerge and radiate their joy as summer peaks and turns into autumn. My work is inspired by the desire to capture these remarkable wonders of nature, allowing us to enjoy their beauty in our homes throughout all seasons of the year. This piece is particularly special not just for its fluid coloured details but also for its impressive scale, which enhances its visual impact.
Paintings inspired by gardens. My garden, local gardens, Monet's garden - gardens are a never-ending source of escapism and joy.
Sketching outside has to be one of the most happily absorbing occupations there is. Surrounded by colour, shape, pattern and form it's a sensory overload that I love. Add in the scents, the sounds and the light - it's bliss. I create playful 'collaged' sketches en plein air and use them to develop paintings and prints that capture the essence of a garden, maybe at a particular time of day, maybe about a particular colour combination or maybe about an exciting mix of shapes and textures. It's a limitless joy!
Mixed media on canvas 126 × 126 cm - this picture is framed in a bespoke French grey wooden tray frame.

My paintings are mainly in acrylics with waterbased pastels and pencils used to scribe gestural details and motifs. Painted onto either triple gessoed ply panels or high quality canvases, all paintings are UV sealed. We try to represent colours as accurately as possible but differences in hue will occur due to variations in monitors and lighting. If you are interested in a painting but unsure of how it will work with your space I can send you more images, even paint samples if you need to match a colour. It is also possible for me to produce an ‘insitu’ digital impression of how the piece would look in your room. Please email me if you wish to discuss this.
